Permanent vs removable grillz: what matters in NSW
Grillz Sydney makes removable grillz only, cast from a mould of your own teeth and taken out whenever you like — nothing is bonded, drilled or permanently fixed to a real tooth. Anything permanently attached to teeth is dental work, which should only ever be carried out by a registered dental professional.
Two very different products, one name
"Grillz" covers two genuinely different things, and it's worth being clear about the difference before you spend any money. A removable grillz set is a custom cap or set of caps that slides over your natural teeth and comes back off whenever you want — nothing is attached to the tooth itself. A permanent set, sometimes sold as permanent tooth jewellery or bonded grillz, is fixed in place using dental cement or bonding, and taking it off again means more dental work.
Everything Grillz Sydney makes is removable. We don't offer, fit or recommend permanent bonding of any kind.
Why that's a deliberate choice, not just a style preference
Carrying out any procedure on a patient's teeth — including bonding an appliance, cementing a cap in place, or adjusting a tooth's surface to help something sit flush — is dentistry, and dentistry should only be carried out by a registered dental professional.
A jewellery studio, however skilled at casting metal and setting stones, is not a dental practice and has no basis to carry out procedures on anyone's teeth. That's precisely why our process stops at taking an impression and fitting a removable piece — the parts that are genuinely dentistry stay with dentists, and the parts that are jewellery-making stay with us.
What removable actually means in practice
A removable grillz set is cast from a dental-grade mould of your own teeth, either taken at an in-person appointment or sent back to us using a mould kit posted anywhere in NSW. The finished metal is shaped to grip your teeth snugly through its own fit — friction and the precision of the mould hold it in place, not glue or cement.
You can take it out to eat, clean your teeth normally, and put it back in whenever you like. Nothing about your natural teeth is altered to make it fit.
Questions worth asking before you buy permanent tooth jewellery
If you're considering a permanent option from any provider, it's worth checking some basic things first. These aren't scare tactics — they're the same questions you'd ask before any other dental procedure.
- Is the person fitting it a registered dental professional?
- What happens to the tooth surface during fitting, and is that change reversible?
- What's the plan if you want it removed later, and who carries that out?
- Has a dentist assessed your teeth and gums as suitable beforehand?
Our position
We make removable, custom-fitted grillz for people across Sydney and the wider NSW — nothing bonded, nothing drilled, nothing permanent. If you're set on a permanently bonded option, that's a conversation to have with a registered dentist, not a jewellery studio. We're always happy to talk through what a removable set can and can't do if you're weighing up the two.
Questions people ask
Are Grillz Sydney's grillz permanent?
No. Every set we make is removable — it's cast from a mould of your teeth and comes out whenever you want. We don't bond or cement anything in place.
Who should fit permanent tooth jewellery?
Any procedure carried out on a patient's teeth, including permanent bonding, is dentistry and should only be carried out by a registered dental professional, not a jewellery studio.
Will a removable set damage my teeth?
A well-fitted removable set shouldn't alter your natural teeth, because nothing is drilled, filed or bonded on. As with any appliance worn in the mouth, keep it clean and give your teeth a break from wearing it regularly.
